RESIDENTIAL SERVICES
InReach understands that affordable, stable housing in a safe neighborhood is a priority for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Accessible housing is crucial in enabling disabled people to live and thrive in their communities and to be able to live a full and inclusive life. Our residential services are designed to support individuals in the most independent setting that meets their needs.
Our long-term partnership with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allows us to offer Section 811 subsidized housing to help meet these needs.
Group homes
InReach operates 18 group homes in well-established neighborhoods located throughout Charlotte NC, two in Union County and one in Hickory. Each home provides a home-like environment with 24/7 supervision for adults ages 18 and up. The residents have various IDD with one home for the hearing impaired. Residents receive regular instruction in independent living skills such as personal care, shopping, cooking, housekeeping, and accessing community services. Our homes provide a place for personal growth as well as a stimulating social life. Activities include gainful employment, attending school or vocational training, volunteering, participating in church services and activities, and participating in recreational activities.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Age 18 or older
- Current psychological evaluation (within 5 years).

Independent Community Housing
InReach manages one- and two-bedroom condominiums and apartments in Charlotte, funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the Section 811 program for individuals with developmental disabilities. Applicants must meet HUD’s low-income requirements.
Rent is set at one-third of the tenant’s income and includes all utilities except cable and phone service. While InReach or other local resources offer staff support and supervision, this is optional and not required.
There is a waiting list for these condominiums and apartments. Interested individuals may be added to the waiting list by requesting an application from the InReach office or downloading from this website.
