Employment Services
Employment connects us to full participation and inclusion in our communities. It fosters a sense of self-worth, opens opportunities for social growth and leads to greater independence. We believe that all people – regardless of perceived limitations – have employment potential and can earn an income, pay taxes, and continuously and independently support themselves.
Because all people have the right to work, our employment programs place the focus on finding work that matches the job seeker’s interests and talents with support tailored to their individual abilities and needs.
Supported employment (SE)
These programs offer vocational screening and assessment, job development, on-the-job training, and long-term follow-up services (for supported employment only) to enhance success and satisfaction for both employees and employers. Employers gain access to reliable, skilled workers who have received the necessary training.
Eligibility guidelines include but are not limited to I/DD diagnosis, residents of Mecklenburg County, age 18 or older.

Work Adjustment (WA)
Our program is designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities whose challenges may limit access to competitive employment. This supportive, goal-oriented program helps participants build the foundational skills needed to succeed in the workplace.
Through real or simulated work activities in supervised settings—such as rehabilitation facilities or partnered worksites—participants develop critical work behaviors and personal characteristics, including:
Attendance and punctuality
Work stamina and task completion
Appropriate dress and personal hygiene
Positive attitudes and motivation
Effective communication and interpersonal skills with coworkers and supervisors
Each individual follows a personalized plan, and services continue until meaningful progress is made or identified goals are achieved. The program may include practical work experience and, when appropriate, extended or transitional employment opportunities.
Our goal is to empower individuals to reach their fullest potential and prepare for success in supported or competitive employment environments.
Eligibility guidelines include but are not limited to I/DD diagnosis, residents of Mecklenburg County, age 18 or older.
